Do you need to improve your IT skills? BU offers a range of FREE training and support to BU students on and off campus!


In a very competitive job market, employers look for students and graduates with first-rate IT skills.

IT Services provide a programme of both classroom-based and online courses available throughout the academic year that are free to all staff and students at the university. The aim is to develop and inspire professional best practice IT knowledge, supporting current and future needs in teaching, learning and research.

A selection from our course catalogue includes:

  • Word: Formatting Assignments and Dissertations
  • Outlook: An introduction to outlook
  • Excel: The essentials
  • Access: Introduction to Access
  • PowerPoint: Creating effective presentations in PowerPoint
  • SPSS: Working with SPSS and statistical analysis
  • Adobe InDesign: Working with InDesign
  • Adobe Photoshop: Working with Photoshop

We have over 50 workshops to choose from covering MS office applications, SPSS Statistics and Adobe creative. Training takes place at both the Talbot and Lansdowne Campus.

To formalise your IT Skills, the team offers Microsoft certifications through Certiport. You can obtain your Microsoft Office Specialist, Expert and Master Qualifications to help your CV stand out from the crowd. For more details please view the IT Skills Development community.
