If you are interested in getting some work experience in China, there are still places available for the China Work Experience Programme which runs from Sept 2015 until Feb 2016 either as a work placement (we have a mentor in place in China) or as a GAP year.
The students who were in China are now finishing their GAP year in India working with children from slum areas of Bangalore. They are the first to go there and are setting up a 3 month Programme for those who go to China in September, which will run from March until June 2016 – perfect for anyone taking a GAP year.
The age limit is 18-25 years but graduates up to 30 will be considered depending on the individual. It is open to all nationalities as long as you speak English fluently and in a clear accent. There are students from the US and Scandinavia already accepted on the Programme for September, as well as 6 other students from the UK.
The biggest change that was made last year is that the Centre in Tianjin will now cover the Agency Fees so you only need to raise funds for your ticket, visa and travel insurance – as you would if you were going on holiday there. The only big difference is that you will have no hotel bills, as your food and accommodation is provided for free once there!
As before, the last month is for you to team up with other students and travel around China on your own itinerary. You can visit nearby Beijing in your free weekends and there are trips to Xian and Hong Kong too. So all you would need is pocket money and travel funds.
The programme includes a very good cultural course, Mandarin lessons and the chance to do a TESOL course for those who may want to teach English as a self employment when you return.
