Do you need to improve your IT skills? BU offers a range of FREE training and support to BU students on and off campus!

More and more employers are looking for students and graduates with competent IT skills, so if you want ‘the edge’ when competing in the jobs market etc,  the IT Skills Team at BU offers a range of FREE training materials and courses  for BU students which will help improve your IT skills. This includes:-

1. Providing a programme of IT related workshops  and support materials to help you develop basic computing skills which will be invaluable during your time at the University and afterwards.  Each term the team publish a new programme of workshops which are free of charge for students and staff, they range from introductions for users with very little experience to more advanced topics. The workshops are normally held in the IT Labs on the first floor of Studland House and cover topics such as:-

  • Word
  • Excel
  • Powerpoint
  • SPSS
  • Outlook
  • Access
  • Adobe Photoshop

To find out about forthcoming workshops and to access the online support materials visit the ‘IT Skills Development Community’ in myBU (select it from the ‘Communities you are participating in’ section on myBU)

2. The IT skills team also offer one to one surgeries dealing with course related IT enquiries.  Based in the IT lab areas, appointments will normally last for 30 minutes. The one to one sessions are aimed at resolving particular problems rather than the teaching of software packages and hardware support. To arrange an appointment please send an email to stating what support is required and your preferred day/date.
